Chiamaka Nnadozie is in the running for the best goalkeeper award in the French Arkema Premier League.
According to Naija News, Nnadozie has been nominated along with two other players: Mary Earps of Paris Saint-Germain and Christiane Endler of Olympique Lyonnais.
This season, the goalkeeper has secured 10 clean sheets for her team, Paris FC, while Endler and Earps have achieved 13 and eight clean sheets, respectively.
At the age of 24, she also won the National Union of Professional Footballers award for the best goalkeeper in France’s top women’s league for the 2023/24 season.
Last season, Nnadozie became the first African and specifically Nigerian recipient of this award, making history.
Nnadozie is presently acknowledged as Africa’s leading goalkeeper.
Osama Nabih, the head coach of Egypt’s Under-20 national team, has praised the performance of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles in a friendly match before the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations on Tuesday night at Cairo International Stadium.
The coach from Egypt praised his players for their performance, even though they lost narrowly to the Flying Eagles with a score of 2-1.
The game kicked off explosively, with Norwegian-based forward Kparobo Arierhi scoring and giving Nigeria the lead within the first 10 minutes.
However, the Young Pharaohs showed resilience and skill, managing to equalise in the 68th minute through a well-crafted goal by Ahmed Kaabaka, who capitalised on a beautiful team move to level the score.
As the match progressed, it appeared that Egypt might secure a positive result.
However, the turning point came in the 84th minute when Nigeria was awarded a penalty, which Precious Benjamin converted, sealing the victory for the Flying Eagles.
Reflecting on the match, Nabih stated, “We faced a strong and well-organised team. Our players delivered one of the most valuable and intense experiences in terms of technical, tactical, and physical aspects.
After they effectively dealt with the setback of an early deficit, they were able to control the game at key moments and present a genuine threat. The equalizer by Kabaka demonstrated our resolve and collaboration.
The coach added, “Although we had several scoring opportunities that we unfortunately missed, we could have secured victory ourselves if we had been more clinical in front of goal before Nigeria’s late penalty.”
