Baba Adam, a Nigerian activist residing in the United States, has requested that President Bola Tinubu react forcefully to what he labeled a reckless and unmatched threat of military action made by US President Donald Trump.
In an email that was sent on Sunday, Adam accused Trump of using intimidation diplomacy and violating international law after the US leader warned that America might use military force against Nigeria concerning alleged assaults on Christians.
Adam said: “We completely reject this irresponsible show of military intimidation and demand immediate, determined action to protect Nigeria’s ultimate authority.”
He urged the Tinubu administration to officially call in the US Ambassador to Nigeria and issue a strong complaint against what he called intrusion in Nigeria’s domestic matters.
He also added that Nigeria should not hesitate to end diplomatic ties with the USA if it becomes necessary.
Adam also suggested that Nigeria should take the matter to the United Nations Security Council by submitting an urgent official decision defending its ultimate authority.
He further proposed calling an emergency meeting of ECOWAS and the African Union to declare that any assault on Nigeria would be considered an assault on all of Africa.
He encouraged the National Assembly to pass an official decision condemning the alleged US threat and stating again Nigeria’s total control over its territory.
Adam also advised Tinubu to check the loyalty of Nigeria’s European partners.
He said: “You might want to activate your ties with the leadership of France, even though we believe they are weak and cannot oppose the USA, but it provides a good chance to see if they are genuine friends of Nigeria,” he mentioned.
Trump had previously designated Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) following unproven accusations of a Christian genocide in the nation.
