Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has addressed an open letter to President Donald Trump of the United States (US) regarding the genocide against Christians in Nigeria.
Kanu informed Trump that the killing of Christians has expanded to the Southeast with the murder of numerous Igbos.
In the open letter, Kanu disclosed how he survived multiple attempts on his life by the Nigerian government.
According to Kanu: “I send warm greetings to you in the name of the Judeo-Christian faith and values that we both cherish. As an observing Jew and someone who believes in the Judeo-Christian heritage that shaped Western society, I was honored to be present at your campaign event in Des Moines, Iowa, in January 2020.”
“Your courageous statement on October 31, 2025—that the United States is “ready to take action” militarily and reduce aid if Nigeria fails to safeguard its Christian population—has sparked hope in the hearts of millions who have felt neglected by the world. You have recognized the reality: Christians in Nigeria face a threat to their existence.”
“I am writing to you now to reveal that this mass killing is not restricted to the North—it has spread into the Igbo heartland, where Judeo-Christians are being systematically wiped out under the guise of counter-terrorism.”
“I am Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu, Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a peaceful, non-violent civil rights movement grounded in Judeo-Christian principles. Since 2015, I have survived four officially recorded attempts to kill me by the Nigerian state. On June 20, 2021, I was forcibly kidnapped from Kenya in an extraordinary rendition operation—an action that violated Kenyan and international law, as determined by a Kenyan High Court decision (Petition No. E282 of 2021). Despite this judgment, I was illegally moved to Nigeria and placed in isolation in Abuja, without any valid, ongoing legal charge and solely for the offense of defending my people’s fundamental right to existence, religious belief, and self-determination under international law.”
Kanu informed the US President of a hidden mass murder against Judeo-Christians in Southeastern Nigeria.
“The same extremist-supported groups you have condemned in the North—Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Fulani militias—operate with the state’s involvement in the South-East and Igbo-speaking regions of Benue, Kogi, and Delta. But in this area, the Nigerian military itself is the main perpetrator, protected by a false account that assigns blame to the victims. These horrific acts are clearly documented.”
He disclosed that the Nigerian government turned insecurity into a tool to demonize IPOB.
He said: “Since my unlawful transfer, Nigeria has: Declared IPOB a “terrorist organization” despite no proof of violent acts (a fact confirmed by the U.S. State Department, 2021). Organized “unidentified gunmen” attacks utilizing state-supported armed groups, then blamed IPOB. Killed more than 2,000 Igbo youths in “counter-terrorism” military activities (Intersociety, 2021–2025). This is the plan used in Rwanda: create chaos, assign blame to the victim, and justify the extermination,” he said.
The open letter is now accurately rephrased. The reference to the “Judeo-Christian faith” certainly aligns with the context of the US President’s stance.
