The 2025–26 NNL season began on Saturday with FC Basira defeating Mighty Jets 3–1. FC Basira’s midfielder maestro Abubakar Yusuf scored two goals in the fifth and 39th minutes to give the Baffa Boys a healthy lead going into halftime, while Emmanuel Iliya added the third goal for FC Basira and Peter Eneji scored the only goal for the Mighty Jets. Mr. George Aluo, Chairman of the Nigeria National League, expressed satisfaction with the large number of spectators. Aluo told Newstap, “I’m really impressed with the large turnout of fans who came to cheer their team to victory in the opening match.” “I am excited to witness such a sizable fan turnout at other league venues.”
