As the influence of the Nigerian National Petroleum Limited (NNPCL) diminishes, the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 revision has sparked speculation over who will become the new dominating agency. In the midst of the debate, the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) has planned to create an additional agency that would increase the bureaucratic structure of the oil and gas industry, which is producing uneasy calm in the industry.During a public hearing on the bill’s development, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Alhassan Doguwa, stated that the proposed Commission seeks to address persistent issues related to the decommissioning and abandonment of oil and gas assets.
