A stampede at the home of the defense minister left one person dead and six injured.

One person died and six others were hurt in a stampede at the Zamfara State home of the Minister of Defense, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, in Gusau, according to security reports on Friday.

The event took place at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Thursday as a big crowd assembled to greet the minister.

Zagazola Makama noted on X that the scene turned disorganized, resulting in the stampede.

Khalifa Uzairu, 23, was among the victims and was pronounced dead upon reaching Farida General Hospital.

Ayuba Sani, Muhammadu Adams, Aliyu Aminu, Shaaban Hamisu, and Inusa Musa Shehu were the others transported to the hospital.

Officials stated that the surviving injured victims are stable and currently undergoing medical care.

Security teams have been sent to manage the situation, and an investigation is in progress to determine the cause of the stampede and who might be held accountable.

The authorities advised the public to be careful and support security efforts to prevent comparable occurrences at official gatherings.
