Sports Nigeria vs. DR Congo: Super Eagles coach Chelle explains why she replaced Osimhen at halfway.

Eric Chelle, the head coach of the Super Eagles, has explained why he replaced attacker Victor Osimhen in Sunday’s World Cup qualifying playoff final loss to DR Congo. At halftime, Chelle chose to substitute Akor Adams for Osimhen as DR Congode lost to Nigeria on a penalty shootout. After 120 minutes, the game in Rabat, Morocco, concluded in a 1-1 draw. During the match, Frank Onyeka and Mechak Elia scored goals for each teams. But when a reporter inquired about Osimhen, Chelle only replied, “He has an injury,” as he left the stadium. Noah Sadiki, a defender for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has maintained that Osimhen’s injury benefited his team throughout the match. DR Congo will now compete for Africa in the March 2026 intercontinental playoffs.
