Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Kebbi State, landing at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi, on the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
He is there to meet with state government officials and the families of the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga. Shettima is accompanied by the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, and other government officials.
The purpose of his visit is to convey President Tinubu’s message of solidarity and condolences to the people of Kebbi, and to get a briefing on the situation to relay back to the President.
The attack on the school resulted in the death of the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, who was reportedly killed while attempting to stop the abduction.
In reaction to the attack, the police deployed a combined tactical team to search the forests for the girls. President Tinubu condemned the attack, offered his condolences, and postponed his scheduled trips to the G20 Summit in South Africa and the AU-EU Summit in Angola to attend to the security issues.
