The National Assembly House Committee on Privatization and Commercialization has reiterated its dedication to bolstering legislative initiatives meant to reduce the growing threat of energy theft in Nigeria’s power industry. According to a statement, the Committee provided this guarantee while on an oversight visit to Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC).The National Assembly is currently stepping up efforts on a bill to combat energy theft through tougher penalties, increased enforcement, and better protection of electricity assets, according to Hon. Engr. Hamisu Ibrahim, the Committee Chairman, who spoke with the Executive Management of IBEDC. In Nigeria, energy theft has grown to be a significant barrier to effective electricity delivery. The Chairman said, “We are developing a strong legal framework that will effectively combat this threat and protect infrastructure investments.
