Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, accused the Niger State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) chairman, Rev. Dr. Bulus Yohanna, of withholding facts about the student abduction from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.
During an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Monday, the presidential aide alleged that Yohanna was “playing games” with the situation and hindering official attempts to confirm the exact number of students kidnapped.
Onanuga dismissed Yohanna’s prior statement that 51 abducted students had been rescued, claiming those students were never actually captured.
He further stated that the government still does not know how many students are missing because the school and religious authorities are not cooperating.
Onanuga explained, “I learnt when the bandits came in the night, the students were running helter-skelter and some of them merely ran back to their homes.”
He concluded that “the authorities are in the dark as to how many people are really missing,” adding that even security agencies lacked clarity.
