Abuja citizens have been urged to adhere to traffic laws and support continued efforts to uphold law and order throughout the territory by CP Ajao Adewale, Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command. He asserts that adherence to traffic laws lessens lengthy traffic bottlenecks in densely populated places. Recent traffic jams in some areas of the country’s capital are the source of the CP’s comments. Residents used to easy traffic flow in the city have complained about the protracted gridlock.
In a statement that was released on Monday by Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the command, Adewale defined the observance of traffic laws as an essential civic responsibility that not only protects personal safety but also helps to the growth of the broader nation.
The Commissioner particularly warned against illegal parking, street trading, and roadside hawking, stressing that these activities disrupt the smooth flow of traffic, endanger lives, and could lead to fatal incidents.
“The police are not adversaries; we are partners in progress.
“Respect for officers, obedience to traffic regulations, and refraining from illegal roadside activities are vital to creating a safer, more organized FCT,” Adewale said.
He, however, warned individuals or groups who may attempt to attack or obstruct law enforcement officers, especially those carrying out traffic management and public safety assignments.
According to him, such acts will be met with the full weight of the law.
Adewale said, “Anyone found assaulting or obstructing officers, especially those performing traffic and public safety duties, will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
“The FCT Police Command remains committed to securing the lives and property of all residents. The public is encouraged to report traffic violations, suspicious activities, and emergencies via the emergency lines.”
