Viral footage of a planned attack on state universities is dismissed by Ekiti Police.

The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed a viral video claiming that bandits planned to attack Ekiti State University (EKSU) and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI). The police described the video as fake, misleading, and intended to cause fear.
In a statement on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Abutu Sunday confirmed that a thorough investigation found the video was generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and was part of a fabricated rumor designed to cause panic.
Despite the video being fake, the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, ordered the deployment of personnel to strategic locations, including schools, border towns, and other identified black spots.
The Command urged the public to remain calm and continue lawful activities, assuring that security agencies are prepared to maintain peace and protect lives and property. CP Eribo appealed to residents to cooperate with operatives and promptly report any suspicious movements using the emergency contact numbers: 08062335577 and 09064050086.
