William Troost-Ekong, the retiring captain of the Super Eagles, has tallied his accomplishments with the Nigerian national football team. According to the DAILY POST, the defender ended a ten-year run with Nigeria by announcing his resignation from the Super Eagles on Thursday. His departure came just two weeks before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which shocked many supporters. The former Watford player was part of Eric Chelle’s 52-man professional squad for the competition, which he handled for the national team. In 2015, Troost-Ekong made his debut for Nigeria following a call-up from the late Stephen Keshi.Troost-Ekong stated he never imagined being the Super Eagles’ captain and thanked them for the opportunity to play for Nigeria.
