Political analyst Hassan Ibrahim has warned former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to stop meddling in Kano State’s security affairs, while simultaneously urging current Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to prioritize residents’ safety over politics.

Ibrahim views Ganduje’s recent actions, such as referencing the alleged mass sacking of Hisbah personnel and proposing a new private security outfit (the independent Hisbah), as a political strategy to weaken the current government. He cautioned that this move could aggravate an already fragile atmosphere.
The analyst warned that establishing a separate security structure could lead to clashes with the existing state-owned Hisbah, diverting the government’s focus from fighting bandits. Ibrahim also suggested that the current administration has grounds to hold Ganduje partly responsible for the rising insecurity, pointing to the alleged use of political thuggery during his tenure and his role in the lingering emirship tussle.
Advice to Governor Yusuf
Mr. Ibrahim issued a clarion call for Governor Yusuf to act decisively and deploy all resources within his constitutional powers to defeat insecurity. He stressed that the governor’s primary mandate is to protect lives and property.
Crucially, he advised the governor to mend fences and strengthen cooperation with federal security agencies like the police, DSS, and military, stating that a healthy relationship is essential to overcoming the security challenges.

Ibrahim concluded with a strong appeal to both leaders to place public safety above political interests, stating, “Before politics, there must be Kano.” He urged Ganduje to support the current administration in tackling insecurity first.
This analysis comes as the Kano State government officially called for the arrest of Ganduje over allegations of inciting insecurity, an accusation Ganduje has dismissed as reckless and politically motivated.
