Livestock dealers have voiced concerns about poor patronage as the Christmas season approaches, even if the prices of different chicks have decreased. According to Daily Trust data, breeders are sold for N25,000 this year as opposed to N35,000 last year, a N10,000 decrease in price.Patronage, however, has reportedly decreased in comparison to the previous year. Despite the price reduction, Joe Okorowa, a roadside vendor who keeps chickens in a minibus, expressed disappointment over the low sales.There is very little patronage. Patronage was very low this year compared to last year. We sold between N30,000 and N35,000 last year.”A customer could purchase three to five hens back then, but now practically anyone would ask for two. I still have 29 of the 38 pieces I brought,” he remarked. Additionally, he emphasized that a 25 kg bag of feed now costs N26,000 instead of N17,500, claiming that he produces his own feed to cut costs. “I make my own feeds because it’s less that way, but all the prices have gone up.” I don’t enjoy selling mushy chicken, so I got a day-old chick, and it takes more than five months to breed them,” he remarked.
