As people purchase at the last minute for this year’s Christmas and festive period celebration in Kano, the costs of necessities are still relatively low compared to previous year, according to vendors of chicken and ice products in Kano. A kilogram of chicken costs between N4500 and N4800 at Tarauni Market, according to Ali Musa, owner of Mumtaz ice goods. According to Musa, a kilogram of chicken sold for N4700 in August, and this time around, traders are reporting outstanding patronage. A medium-sized turkey costs N25,000, while a larger one costs between N35,000 and N40,000, according to Jamilu Lawan Yakubu, a live bird vendor.
