2025: 52% Of Non-Import VAT Collected In Lagos

According to an examination of Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) data, the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) collected N3.4 trillion of the N6.5 trillion in non-import value added tax (TAX) from Lagos State in 2025. The VAT, also known as local VAT, collected from Lagos made up 52 per cent of what was collected during the year.Geographical zone-based analysis showed that South West had the greatest service collection (N3.97 trillion), followed by South-South (N1.29 trillion), and North Central (including VAT from the FCT) (600.3 billion). N8.6trn VAT collected in 2025 Daily Trust reported that a total of N8.6trn was generated as VAT during the year with the NRS collecting N6.5trn as local VAT while the Nigeria Custom Service received N2.03trn.According to a monthly collection analysis, N771.8 billion was collected in January but N654.4 billion in February. Collection fell to N637.6 billion in March as well, although it slightly increased to N642.2 billion in April. In May, it rose by an additional N100 billion to N742.8 billion, but in June, it fell to N678.1 billion. N687 billion was collected in July, N722.6 billion in August, and N872.6 billion in September. In October, it was N719.8bn while November witnessed the lowest collection of N563bn but December saw the greatest collection of N913.9bn
