The convener of the Grand Arewa Twitter Connect, Nabila Yusuf Ahmad, has called for greater inclusion of young people in discussions that affect their future, saying many voices in Northern Nigeria are still unheard.
She revealed this on Sunday at the youth event in Kano, which brought people from various states together to exchange ideas and network.
She claims that the purpose of the event was to provide young people with a forum to voice their opinions and participate in decisions that affect them
We need to have one powerful voice for Northern Nigeria because there are a lot of voices that go unheard,” she stated.
She explainedthat over time, the connection among youths in the region has weakenedmaking it harder for them to collaborate and support one another.
“Youth in Northern Nigeria used to have close relationships, but that area has shrunk. We made the decision to reunite people and bridge the divide because of this,” she continued.
Nabila stressed that unity among young people is key to addressing major challenges such as unemployment and insecurity.
One of the most crucial things we are aiming for is unity. People are already establishing connections and forming relationships if you look around,” she remarked.
Entrepreneur Aliyu Muhammad, better known by his stage name Sarkin Mota, also spoke at the event and emphasized the importance of national unity.
“We frequently say North and South, but the reality is that neither the North nor the South can prevail on their own. We all fail together if Nigeria fails,” he declared.
He expressed disapproval of young people’s use of social media, claiming that it is frequently employed negatively.
Instead of building, we use X to drag. Instead of using influence to empower, we use it to insult. Value alone will make you powerful, but clout will make you popular,” he continued.
Young Nigerians were urged by Sarkin Mota to concentrate on helping and encouraging one another.
The generation has a lot of energy, but it needs better guidance, he said.
