Wayne Rooney, a legend of Manchester United, has blasted Luis Enrique, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, after the Parisians defeated Bayern Munich 5-4 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.
After Vincent Kompany’s team lost to the French Ligue 1 champions in Paris, Rooney also revealed a significant flaw in Bayern Munich.
Rooney chastised Enrique for not helping his team finish the tie while they were ahead 5-2 in his post-match analysis for Prime Video.
He added that Kompany’s team is attack-oriented and that this caused them to give up “schoolboy goals” against PSG, implying that Bayern’s vulnerability is their incapacity to defend effectively.
“I think Luis Enrique is a great coach, so when they were ahead 5-2, I think he should have said, ‘right, let’s shut up shop, let’s get behind the ball, make it hard, see the tie out.’ That might have gotten them to the final, but they didn’t, they went for more goals,” Rooney stated.
“Vincent Kompany’s team is very attack-oriented, and it’s evident that they haven’t put much effort into defense because some of the goals we’ve seen are schoolboy goals.”
