FIFA offers six-week yellow card amnesty for the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

FIFA offers six-week yellow card amnesty for the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

With the 2026 World Cup less than two months away, FIFA, the organization that oversees international football, has announced a change to its yellow card regulation.

After the third group stage encounter in the quadrennial Mundial, players with two yellow cards will receive amnesty, according to the Zurich-based organization, which announced that yellow cards accrued during the competition will no longer result in a one-game suspension during the knockout phase.

FIFA made the decision public after it was suggested and approved by the organization’s ruling council on Tuesday.

Red cards are accumulated in FIFA competitions until the quarterfinals, at which point a player’s consecutive yellow cards won’t prevent them from competing in the World Cup final.
