Abdu Maikaba and Eboboritse Uwejamomere have been named head coaches of the men’s national U-20 squad and the boys’ national U-17 team, respectively, according to the Nigeria Football Federation.
Following the reorganization of the backrooms of all age-grade national football teams, Maikaba and Uwejamomere were appointed.
“The Nigeria Football Federation’s Executive Committee has approved the Technical and Development Committee’s recommendation to appoint Abdu Maikaba and Eboboritse Uwejamomere as head coaches of the U20 and U17 Boys National Teams,” the NFF declared on Thursday.
In addition to managing a number of Nigeria’s elite clubs, Maikaba has coached the Golden Eaglets, the U17 Boys’ National Team. Paul Aigbogun was the head coach of the U20 Boys Flying Eagles while he was their assistant coach.The soft-spoken strategist has played for elite teams including Enyimba FC, Wikki Tourists, Kano Pillars, and Plateau United. In 2017, he memorably led Akwa United FC to victory in the nation’s oldest and most prestigious football championship, the President Federation Cup.
Uwejamomere, the five-time world champion Golden Eaglets’ new head coach, has long worked as a coach-analyst for the Super Eagles, the senior men’s national team.
In addition to working as an analyst for the senior women’s national team, Super Falcons, and as an academy youth development coach at Millwall FC, Gillingham FC, and Nottingham Forest FC in England, he is currently head of academy at Sporting Lagos FC, which was just promoted back to the NPFL. He also served as Stormers FC’s head coach at Abeokuta.
He reportedly defeated Pleateu United Gaffer Shola Adegunt and Beyond Limits coach Olumide Ajibolade for the position.
The national U-23 team is the only team still feeling the effects of the modifications made to the backroom of the female age-grade national team.
Samson Siasia and Daniel Amokachi, two former Super Eagles players, are reportedly vying for the position ahead of the Los Angeles Olympic qualifiers in 2028.
