The Sweden star is “making progress,” but Kulusevski’s World Cup dream may be lost.
Sweden manager Graham Potter has confirmed that Tottenham midfielder Dejan Kulusevski is making steady progress in his recovery and is aiming to return fully fit for the beginning of next season.
Kulusevski was not included in Sweden’s World Cup squad after spending the past year recovering from a persistent right knee injury.
Following a second operation earlier this year, the 26-year-old had hoped to recover in time for the tournament, stating in March that his knee was feeling much better. However, Potter explained that the decision was made with the player’s long-term fitness in mind.
Speaking at a press conference, Potter said it had been a difficult call but stressed that Kulusevski’s rehabilitation remains the main priority.
He added that the midfielder has shown positive signs during recovery and now needs to focus completely on regaining full fitness ahead of the new campaign with Tottenham.
According to Potter, the goal is for Kulusevski to return next season in top condition and get back to enjoying football again, while avoiding any unnecessary risks during his rehabilitation process.

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has disclosed that he suffered a partial ACL tear last May before the injury became a complete rupture three months later.
The England star first damaged his knee during Tottenham’s Europa League semi-final first-leg victory over Bodo/Glimt, forcing him to miss the remainder of the campaign.
After consulting an outside specialist, Maddison was informed that surgery would not be necessary at the time. He later returned for pre-season training, but unfortunately sustained a full rupture of the same ACL during a match against Newcastle in South Korea in August.
The setback has since ruled him out for an extended period as he continues his recovery process.
