On Monday, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) issued a warning to carriers not to transport containers that are not securely fastened since doing so puts drivers at grave risk.
In an effort to lower traffic infractions throughout the state, the FRSC Kano Sector Command is stepping up enforcement through its ongoing special patrol, “Operation Guduma.”
The Corps claims that if unlatched containers come off while being transported, it can easily result in collisions or obstruct important roads.
According to the command, “the operation targets offenses including the use of fake diplomatic number plates, overloading violations, mix-loading of goods and passengers, as well as vehicles conveying unlatched containers capable of causing road crashes and obstruction on highways.”
Officials clarified that, particularly on busy highways, improperly secured containers put other road users’ lives in jeopardy in addition to those of drivers and passengers.
Y.A. Haruna, the Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Federal Operations, advised officers to strictly enforce traffic laws while remaining professional during a monitoring operation along the Kano–Zaria Road.
Additionally, he urged drivers and transportation firms to assume accountability by making sure that every load is securely fastened before traveling.
The FRSC cautioned drivers to abide by safety requirements and threatened to punish anyone caught breaking them.
