Umar Tanko Al-Makura, a former governor of Nasarawa State and senator for Nasarawa South, has stated that he believes Mohammed Adamu, a former inspector general of police, would make the state proud if elected governor in 2027.
Prior to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election, Al-Makura accompanied the former police chief and his supporters to the Emir of Lafia’s palace, where he made the assurance.
Al-Makura described the visit as a homecoming for a son returning to seek the blessings, counsel, and prayers of his royal father following consultations throughout the state, characterising it as more than a standard political courtesy.
With just a few days remaining before the APC governorship primary, it is not merely a courtesy visit but a duty for a son who has travelled the state meeting leaders, traditional rulers, and stakeholders to return home and inform his father of the journey thus far,” Al-Makura said.
He pointed out that the delegation, along with the former IGP’s admirers and supporters, appeared before the Emir to make what he called a “special courtesy visit,” different from those made in other royal palaces.
Al-Makura also praised the way the current APC political process is being conducted, stating that a transparent democratic process should be used to choose candidates rather than endorsements or special treatment.
We are pleased that the procedure is in line with democratic ideals. Preferential treatment, consensus agreements, and endorsements should all be avoided. “Voters must be able to cast ballots and their votes must be counted,” he stated.
Throughout the exercise, the senator promised the Emir that Mohammed Adamu and his campaign team would act in accordance with the law and democratic best practices.
“Your Royal Majesty, we want to reassure you that this campaign will be conducted with honesty, justice, and respect for the law, so you will be proud of IGP Adamu and those who work with him.
“By God’s grace, we think we’ll win,” he continued.
