AFCON 2027 draw will be held at Ekong.

William Troost-Ekong, a former captain of the Super Eagles, will take center stage on Tuesday when he conducts the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification draw alongside other African superstars, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Along with Max-Alain Gradel, Essam El Hadary, and Trésor Mputu, the Confederation of African Football announced the defender as one of the draw assistants in a post on X on Monday.

CAF wrote, “African legends on draw duty.”

“Max-Alain Gradel, William Troost-Ekong, Essam El Hadary, and Trésor Mputu are the assistants for tomorrow’s AFCON 2027 Qualifiers Draw.”

Nigeria’s qualification route for the tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda will be decided by the draw, which will include 48 teams split into 12 groups of four. Only the top two teams from each group will move on to the finals.

For the first time since 1976, AFCON will return to East Africa in 2027, bringing with it new logistical difficulties like travel between several host countries and a variety of playing conditions.

Given the increasing prominence and competitiveness of African football, CAF has characterized the enlarged qualification procedure as part of its ongoing efforts to build on the commercial and international growth of prior tournaments.

When the groups are announced on Tuesday, the Super Eagles’ journey to PAMOJA 2027 will formally begin.
