Chief Ugochukwu Ndudiri, a prominent member of the Action Peoples Party (APP) in Imo State, has denounced the selection of Sir Alex Mbata as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Owerri Zone Senatorial Election. He characterises the development as unfair, politically insensitive, and a blatant violation of equity, fairness, and balanced representation in the zone.
Ndudiri, who is from Imo State’s Ikeduru Local Government Area, criticised the APC leadership’s choice to let a different candidate from Owerri North LGA select the Senate ticket right away following the tenure of Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, the current representative for Owerri Zone, who is currently serving two terms in a row.
He insists that allowing another indigenous person from Owerri North LGA to take the senatorial seat right after Senator Onyewuchi’s eight-year term violates the ideals of political balance and equal opportunity, which the zone’s residents have long fought for. He claims that the decision amounts to the political marginalisation of other local government areas within Owerri Zone.
The APP stalwart also pointed out that many capable and capable political figures from other parts of Owerri Zone have not yet been given the chance to represent the zone at the Red Chambers of the National Assembly, while well-known leaders like Senator Eze Ajoku only held office for one term.
Ndudiri called the APC arrangement “a political joke taken too far,” accusing the ruling party of sacrificing inclusivity, justice, and fairness in favour of its own political calculations and self-interest.
In advance of the general elections in 2027, he cautioned that such a development might incite anger, resentment, and discontent among party loyalists and the electorate throughout Owerri Zone.
The APP chieftain emphasised that concentrating the senatorial position within one local government area undermines unity, erodes mutual trust, and goes against democratic principles. He maintained that Owerri Zone is made up of several local government areas blessed with capable and credible individuals who deserve equal consideration in the distribution of political offices.
Ndudiri further asserted that, in contrast to the APC’s repeated assertions, the party in Imo State lacks a true Charter of Equity, claiming that the party has continuously twisted the idea to suit its own political agenda.
However, he praised the Action Peoples Party, or APP, for their unwavering opposition to what he called the state’s political oppression, injustice, and inequality.
He claims that in advance of the 2027 elections, the APP has already decided to establish a genuine and workable Charter of Equity that would ensure equity, inclusivity, and equal political opportunities for every segment of Imo State.
Therefore, the APP chieftain urged the people to support parties and leaders dedicated to transparency, fairness, and true democratic representation while calling on political stakeholders, traditional leaders, party faithful, youths, and well-meaning Owerri Zone residents to reject all forms of political injustice by the APC.
