On Tuesday, demonstrators flocked to the streets of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, calling for the release of teachers and students who had been abducted.
Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, is a social media influencer and activist leading the demonstration, which is titled “Bandits and terrorists must must go.”
The demonstrators called for the immediate and unconditional release of teachers and students who had been seized by bandits a month prior.Earlier, VeryDarkMan had urged Ibadan citizens to participate in the demonstration in support of the victims’ release.
After weeks of increased suspicion following the kidnapping of more than forty students and teachers in the state’s Oriire local government area, members of the Hausa community in Ibadan had earlier organized a protest over alleged ethnic profiling.
