The Action Peoples Party (APP) chapter in Osun State has urged the state’s security services to make sure that a recent Federal High Court ruling regarding the local government crisis is fully complied with.
Odesola Titus, the party’s chairman, said in a statement on Sunday that the decision upheld the legitimacy of the council officials who were duly elected.
According to Odesola, the court in Osogbo ruled that it was unconstitutional for APC chairmen and council members to continue occupying council offices.
However, the party pointed out that the February 22, 2025, local government election was still valid despite the ruling.
Regarding the recent ruling rendered by the Federal High Court in Osogbo, we are sending this notice to all security agencies that are active in Osun State. “The court has categorically ruled that the continuation of the Yes or No (APC) chairmen and council members is unconstitutional,” he stated.
The party emphasised that the ruling emphasised the necessity of acknowledging and defending the legitimately elected chairmen’s and council members’ authority and cautioned against any unlawful interference with their mandates.
We implore all pertinent security agencies to act right away in order to guarantee adherence to this ruling. Protecting peace, law, and order in our communities as well as the mandate of those duly elected by Osun State’s citizens is vital,” he stated.
In accordance with the court’s ruling, the APP also urged security agencies to continue their dedication to upholding stability and democratic principles throughout the state’s local government districts.
The party stated that it expected Osun State’s democratic process to be upheld and respected and thanked security agencies for their cooperation and dedication to enforcing the law.
The appeal follows Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s promise that the local government council members elected on February 22, 2025, under the auspices of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will take office again on Monday, June 22, 2026.
On February 22, 2025, the state government held council elections throughout the state, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates emerged victorious.
In order to prevent violence, Governor Ademola Adeleke also swore in the elected officials on February 23, 2025, and advised them not to return to the council secretariats.
Nonetheless, the All Progressives Congress (APC) elected officials, whose term ended on October 22, 2025, had petitioned the Federal High Court in Osogbo to extend their tenure.
In a ruling rendered on Monday, June 15, 2026, the court declared that the chairmen lacked the legal standing to file the lawsuit and rejected their request for tenure extension.
