Borno Governor Babagana Zulum claims to have relocated 6,000 households who had been uprooted by the insurgency in the state’s Dikwa and Mafa Local Government Areas.
During a visit to the Muna Internally Displaced Persons camp in Maiduguri, one of the biggest in the state with more than 11,000 families, Zulum revealed this on Monday.
According to him, the increase in illegal activity within the camp made the resettlement exercise imperative.
Zulum claimed that efforts to restore normalcy were hampered by the growing rates of prostitution, gangsterism, child abuse, and other crimes in the camp.
“Without resettlement, Boko Haram will never be eliminated. He stated, “People must return to their homes and earn a living.”
Each of the 6,000 households will receive food, shelter supplies, and access to medical treatment, according to the governor.
He added that housewives would earn N50,000 and that each male and female head of family would receive N100,000.
With the closure of roughly 12 camps, Zulum reminded that his administration had previously pledged to close all official IDP camps in Maiduguri.
Approximately 75% of the internally displaced people in Muna have been relocated. In the days ahead, the remaining 25% will go back to their ancestral homes,” he stated.
