Aliyu Zubairu, the head coach of Flying Eagles, has voiced a firm resolve for his team to achieve a clear-cut win over Kenya on Wednesday, May 7.
The match will be the last one in Group B for the Flying Eagles at the 2025 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations. The venue will be the Air Defence Stadium in Cairo on June 30.
A victory will secure Zubairu and his team a place in the next round of the tournament as they strive for an eighth continental title, extending their record.
The seven-time champions were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Morocco in their last match, a result that left them in second place in the group with four points from two matches played so far.
The draws increased the pressure on the Flying Eagles, making it essential for them to earn all three points against Kenya, who are currently at the bottom of the group without any points.
Zubairu declared after the Morocco draw, “We will tackle the match versus Kenya with hopefulness and assurance.”
“Despite their difficulties in this tournament, they remain a competent team, and we must regard them with the highest respect. We will concentrate on sustaining a high degree of focus in order to secure the three points we need to progress to the quarter-finals.
In the meantime, Daniel Bameyi, the captain of the Flying Eagles, contemplated the team’s difficult battle to secure a draw with Morocco, admitting that they encountered challenges during the entire game.
The team began with great strength, demonstrating their abilities and establishing control in the first half; the Moroccans, however, regrouped and took control of much of the second half, leading to a tense situation on the pitch.
Bameyi praised both his teammates and the rivals, stating, “The match was fierce and competitive, and I think the result truly represents the struggle we encountered. We owe gratitude to God for the point we earned. As we get ready for the decisive game with Kenya, it was vital for our morale.
