2025 U-20 AFCON: Kingsley shares joy over Flying Eagles securing third place

After the team’s victory over Egypt to secure a bronze medal at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, Mathew Kingsley, an attacking midfielder for the Flying Eagles, has shared his joy.

On Sunday at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in Cairo, Aliyu Zubairu’s team triumphed over the Egyptian hosts, winning 4-1 on penalties in the third-place match.

The two teams fought to a 1–1 tie during the regular time.

Kingsley said the joy of winning a medal with the national team is immeasurable.

“I am extremely happy that at least we are not going back empty handed,” Kingsley said after the game.

“Unfortunately this is not what we bargained for but most importantly we have qualified for the world cup.

“We will work hard to ensure we improve on this achievement as we prepare for the world cup.”
