EPL: Guardiola in tears as De Bruyne bids farewell to Man City

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, broke down into tears as Kevin De Bruyne waved goodbye to the Etihad following his final game in front of the fans.

The former Premier League champions have decided not to renew De Bruyne’s contract which expires this summer.

This means the 33-year-old will leave as a free agent after a decade at the club, where he won six league titles and a Champions League trophy.

On Tuesday night, De Bruyne missed an opportunity to score in the match against Bournemouth, which City won 3-1 to move up to third place.

With the stadium lights extinguished, De Bruyne made his final appearance on the pitch to the cheers of fans singing his name, accompanied by his wife Michele Lacroix and their three children – Mason, Rome, and Suri.

Surrounded by fireworks and smaller lights, he was given a guard of honour by City players and officials as he made his way to the centre circle.

Upon being asked about his feelings, De Bruyne responded with, “Very emotional.”

As the Belgian midfielder paused to gather his thoughts, Guardiola was seen weeping.
