Residents of Jigawa State have expressed their opposition to what they describe as exorbitant electricity bills recently issued by the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO). They argue that, given the unreliable power supply, they cannot bear this increase.
The residents, who get their electricity from KEDCO—responsible for distributing power to Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, and parts of Bauchi State—voiced their anger and frustration over the rise in their estimated bill for April of this year.
A community leader from Takur Quarters, Ali Ahmadu stated that the power supply from KEDCO in the state has been unreliable for the last three to four months. “This year marks the second instance of KEDCO overbilling us beyond our expected charges for this period, despite the extremely poor electricity supply and ongoing outages,” Ahmadu expressed his dissatisfaction.
