Luka Modric’s decision to leave Real Madrid

The rationale behind club captain Luka Modric’s decision to depart Real Madrid has been disclosed.

On Thursday, Modric disclosed that he would depart from Real Madrid following the conclusion of their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign this summer.

On Saturday, in their last La Liga match of the season, Real Madrid will face Real Sociedad, and the captain of Real Madrid will play his final game for the club at Santiago Bernabéu.

In an Instagram post, the Croatia midfielder stated: “The moment has arrived. The moment I dreaded has arrived, but that’s football for you, and in life there are beginnings and endings.”

Fabrizio Romano, a football transfer expert, stated that the 39-year-old opted to depart from the Spanish LaLiga giants after the club informed him of their desire to begin a “new era” with younger players.

Romano mentioned that while Modric wished to remain at Madrid, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner needed to honor the club’s decision.

Since his transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Madrid in 2012, Modric has secured 28 trophies, among them six UEFA Champions Leagues and four domestic championships.
