The Lagos State Task Force and the University of Lagos, or UNILAG, have partnered to address the escalating environmental and security issues surrounding the main gate of the university.
The partnership is intended to stop unlawful activities, lessen the threat of thugs, and enhance the general atmosphere for students, employees, and guests, according to a statement signed by David Omotoso, Coordinator of UNILAG’s Security Unit.
Omotoso clarified that the collaboration was formally established on September 26 during a courtesy call with Task Force Chairman Adetayo Akerele, during which he expressed the support of Vice-Chancellor Folasade Ogunsola and the university administration.
He claims that the conversations focused on problems like traffic jams, environmental contamination, and the actions of hawkers, illegal traders, and miscreants that have progressively compromised safety and ruined the aesthetics of the area around the university.
Akerele responded by assuring UNILAG that the Task Force would assist the organization in upholding law and order.He instructed that a special front desk be set up at the Task Force headquarters to handle cases referred by the UNILAG security unit and promised complete cooperation with the vice-chancellor’s vision. He went on to say that the Task Force’s six mobile courts would expedite these cases.
Akerele emphasized that the renewed partnership would contribute to the establishment of a secure and comfortable environment for visitors and the general Lagos public in addition to UNILAG’s academic community.
