Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has urged the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) to remain steadfast in its pursuit of professional excellence and to bridge the gap between corporate reporting and public value. Speaking through his deputy, Auwal Mohammed Jatau, at the 5th session of the 2025 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) Programme for the North East, held at the International Conference Centre in Bauchi, Governor Mohammed described the event’s theme, “Corporate Value Creation and Reporting,” as timely and intellectually engaging.He underlined that today’s accountants need to be strategic partners in governance, development, and sustainable growth in addition to maintaining financial records. The governor praised ANAN for bringing corporate value creation and public value management into harmony, emphasizing that financial reporting should not only show financial performance but also institutional responsibility, developmental relevance, and broader societal impact. Governor Mohammed also raised important issues about accountability and urged experts to gauge results in ways other than monetary ones. “How do investments in healthcare reduce maternal and child mortality? In what ways does our investment in education reduce the number of children who are not attending school? He emphasized that these are accountability issues rather than merely policy ones.
