After Barrister Olalekan Onafeko retired, the Lagos State House of Assembly appointed Barrister Adenike Oshinowo as its new clerk.
Oshinowo became the first woman to hold the role since the Assembly’s founding when she was appointed on April 28, 2026.
She is well known for her expertise in parliamentary administration, legal advisory services, and public sector governance. She is an expert in legislative drafting.
She earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Lagos State University and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Legislative Drafting from the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies. In 1995, she received a call to the Nigerian Bar.
Before joining the Lagos State Civil Service in 1997 as a Legal Draftsman, Oshinowo started her career in private practice.
She began her career in the Lagos State House of Assembly in 1999 and remained there until 2006, at which point she transferred to the Ministry of Justice. Later, in 2008, she went back to the Assembly and worked her way up through the ranks, becoming Deputy Clerk in 2021 and then Clerk in 2026.
She is a member of the International Bar Association and the Nigerian Bar Association, among other professional associations.
Oshinowo has been honoured for her service over the years with a number of awards, including the Lagos State House of Assembly Long Service Award.
