Amnesty International, an international human rights organization, has expressed concern over a substantial increase in kidnappings in northern Nigeria, claiming that at least 1,100 individuals were abducted in just three months.
The organization stated that the incidents, which targeted rural populations and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, happened between January and April 2026 in a message posted on its official X account on Monday.
In response to the deteriorating security situation, Amnesty International urged President Bola Tinubu and his administration to act immediately.
“President Bola Tinubu and his government must urgently address the country’s horrifying spate of abductions targeting rural communities and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the northern part of the country, as at least 1,100 people have been abducted in three months,” the statement stated.
