Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, urged the National Assembly to perform its duty effectively by thoroughly examining the recently submitted list of ambassadorial nominees.
Baba-Ahmed made this appeal during an appearance on ‘Sunday Politics,’ a program on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST.
“I want to raise a very sensitive issue without necessarily casting doubt on anyone. A small number of these nominees require closer examination regarding their past, honesty, and professional history.
“I hope the President [Bola Tinubu], having put forward their names, will now permit the National Assembly to execute its constitutional role and do so with diligence. They should meticulously investigate these individuals,” Baba-Ahmed stated.
The social commentator underscored the necessity of valuing personal probity more highly than political considerations, regional affiliation, or ethnic background.
Baba-Ahmed, who resigned in April 2025 due to private concerns and dissatisfaction with the government’s approach to national problems, also voiced disapproval regarding the late release of the ambassadorial list.
He argued that the list should have been provided much earlier, cautioning that a two-year delay was unacceptable.
It is recalled that President Tinubu nominated 32 individuals as ambassadors over the weekend.
DAILY POST reports that the list featured former Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, ex-minister Femi Fani-Kayode, and former presidential aide Reno Omokri.
Other nominees include ex-Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, former Lagos Deputy Governor Femi Pedro, Ondo Senator and businessman Jimoh Ibrahim, former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Angela Adebayo, and former Adamawa Senator Grace Bent, among others.
