Dr. Babachir David Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and a party chieftain, has formally resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) amid mounting concerns about the party’s implosion.
The well-known politician and technocrat, however, denied rumors that he has yet to join a political party.
In a letter to the chairman of the Bangshika Ward of the Hong Local Government Area in Adamawa State, Babachir Lawal announced his resignation from the APC.
Although he has been at odds with President Bola Tinubu over the selection of a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the pre-2023 presidential election process, the politician did not provide an explanation for his recent move in the “Letter of Resignation from the APC.”
“My Chairman Sir, I am writing to formally notify you of my resignation from the All Progressives Congress APC,” the letter said.
I’ll disclose my present political affiliations soon, and I intend to cooperate with my fellow countrymen to improve living conditions for all Nigerians.
“This resignation is effective immediately. Please continue to be blessed, and give the other members of your party my best wishes.
Since Babachir Lawal’s departure, the ruling APC has been terrified of imploding due to growing animosity among its members, particularly in the country’s north, ahead of the next elections in 2027.
Recall that the African Democratic Congress, or ADC, was recently embraced by a coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a platform for the opposition to usurp power from the ruling party.
