Abraham Waroh, the vice chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue North, has warned traditional leaders against getting involved in partisan politics.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining the traditional institution’s independence, holiness, and respect.
Waroh made this claim on Tuesday while speaking with reporters at the Makurdi-based PDP State Secretariat.
Instead of hiding under the prestigious canopy of traditional authority and making rash political statements, he said, any traditional ruler who wishes to actively participate in politics or influence political appointments in favor of family members should do so openly by resigning from the throne.
According to Waroh, traditional or religious leaders should be viewed as politicians going forward because they are no longer impartial guardians of the populace once they start making political remarks.
He said he would not refrain from using careful word choice when responding to a traditional ruler who has given up the role of bringing the people together for divisive public statements, and he warned against attempts to blackmail him into silence.
