BREAKING: The Senate confirms Kingsley Ude as minister to replace Uche Nnaji.

The Senate has formally approved Kingsley Ude, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), from Enugu State, as a minister in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

His confirmation occurred following a screening session conducted on the Senate floor on Thursday.

Ude previously held the position of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State.

During his screening, senators presented him with a range of questions pertaining to both national and international subjects.

Senator Abdul Ningi requested the nominee to share his viewpoint on the current threat made by Trump, specifically seeking his perspective on potential solutions.

This question caused a momentary disruption in the chamber, as some legislators contended that Ude had already proven his suitability for the ministerial role and should not be subjected to further questioning.

In his response, Ude stated that President Bola Tinubu was managing the situation through diplomatic channels, stressing that the issue was more a matter of statecraft than legality.

Another legislator, Senator Adamu Aliero, requested Ude’s opinions on the potential separation of the offices of the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, to which he responded that “whether they are separate or combined, the successful functioning of that office relies on the individual, on whether he allows himself to be swayed politically or not”.

Evidently satisfied with his replies, the Senate instructed Ude to take a bow and exit, after which his appointment as minister was formally approved.

His nomination comes weeks after the resignation of Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who stepped down from President Tinubu’s cabinet due to a controversy surrounding his academic certificate.

Kingsley Ude is officially in! That makes one less vacant seat in the cabinet.
