The crushing impacts of a power blackout that has lasted for more than three weeks in portions of the state have been lamented by residents of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
Small businesses and households have been negatively impacted by the outage, particularly those that rely on electricity for day-to-day operations.
Olorunshogo, Agbo Oba, Mandate, and portions of Gerewu are among the impacted areas.
A welder named Mr. Abdullahi claimed that in order to maintain his business, he had to rent a diesel generator, which severely reduced his already meager profit margin.For work, I now rent a diesel generator. It’s costly and depletes my meager earnings,” he remarked.
Mandate Estate homeowner Hajia Latifah Abdullahi claimed that the extended outage caused her family to lose food supplies.
The majority of the meat, fish, and tomatoes we had in the refrigerator went bad. We’ve had complete blackout for the third week; we’re not sure what happened. They barely provided light for a few hours on Tuesday, and nothing more,” she bemoaned.
