For the forthcoming under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Aliyu Zubairu, head coach of the Flying Eagles of Nigeria, has announced a 24-man roster.
The Flying Eagles’ roster consists of attacker Kparobo Arierhi, goalie Ifeanyi Harcourt, and captain Daniel Bameyi. Other noteworthy additions are Caleb Ochedikwu of Croatian team NK Uljanik Pula, Emmanuel Chukwu of TSG Hoffenheim, and German forward Precious Benjamin.
Zubairu’s selection, which balances local and international talent, aims to secure an eighth continental title when the tournament kicks off in Egypt in 10 days.
The Flying Eagles, seven-time African champions and two-time FIFA Under-20 World Cup runners-up will depart Nigeria on Sunday.
They are scheduled to play a series of warm-up matches in Egypt before their group opener against Tunisia on Thursday, May 1, in Cairo. Nigeria will then face Morocco on May 4, followed by a final group-stage clash against Kenya on May 7.
Africa will be represented at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile, which is set for September 27–October 19, by the top four countries in the competition.
