Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, has asserted that the 2012 release of his breakout single, “Dami Duro,” served as Goodluck Jonathan’s ringtone.
Davido clarified that once “Dami Duro” received presidential attention and other honors, his father, Deji Adeleke, who had previously opposed his decision to pursue music, finally came around.
“My dad accepted my decision to do music after he heard my second single, ‘Dami Duro,'” Davido stated in a recent interview on Power 105.1 FM in the United States. The song became really popular.
Prior to that, my father used the army and police to shut down my event and detain artists, promoters, and everybody else involved in any performance I was contracted to do. However, after “Dami Duro” became a great hit… The President’s ringtone, I believe. I was informed. People began urging my dad to let me perform music at that point.
“I went one step further and agreed to go back to school. I told him that I should have talked to him instead of running away. No, he wasn’t approachable, and I was younger. I expressed my fear of him to him. I was a child then. We discuss everything and everything now since we are great friends. He attends all of my performances. He plays a big part in my business.
