Davido: My influence on the Nigerian music industry is not sufficiently acknowledged

Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he doesn’t get enough credit for his impact on the Nigerian music industry.

He explained that despite being consistent in the music industry for 15 years, people don’t give him his due credit.

Speaking in a recent interview with content creator Egungun of Lagos, Davido said, “I have been conquering the music industry for 15 years, but the crazy thing is that people don’t give me my flowers [credits] that I deserve.”

Egungun deduced, “Do you think you have haters?”

Davido responded, “There are haters, but when I go everywhere, they love me, so I’m like, where are the haters?”

Although he asserts that he doesn’t receive enough recognition, Davido is among the most-awarded artists in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

At the 17th edition of The Headies Awards, which took place recently in Lagos, he was awarded Artist of the Year.

At the awards ceremony, he was also judged to be Digital Artiste of the Year.
