In response to a contentious social media post that criticized his affiliation with the Igbo community, Nigerian musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, has stated that he is of Igbo descent.
User @Yakbel warned the singer against keeping tight relationships with Igbos, implying that they will eventually turn on him, in a post published on X on Tuesday.
The user said, “Davido just carry Ibo’s entire body until they betray me before I rest.” In 2025, Yoruba boys are playing with Ibos, and they want your head and everything you own. Ibos ooo can never be satisfied. IBOs are not the type of people a Yoruba man should associate with.
Davido responded quickly and bluntly, dismissing the tribal mentality with the words, “Lol, I AM IGBO by blood.”
Since then, the singer’s remarks have generated a lot of responses, with many applauding him for eschewing divisive language and reaffirming solidarity across Nigeria’s ethnic divide.
After thanking Elder Bright Chimezie for inspiring his verse on “With you” a few days prior, Davido hosted him on Monday.
