Emmanuel Ogidi, the National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the South-South geopolitical zone, expressed confidence in the imminent return of governors and other members who recently defected from the party.
During an interview on Arise Television’s news program on Wednesday, Ogidi insisted that the PDP remains a structured and resilient political organization capable of resolving its internal challenges, notwithstanding its current difficulties.
He dismissed concerns regarding alleged plots to disrupt the party’s forthcoming national convention, asserting that the PDP’s established bodies—specifically the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC)—are firmly in control of the proceedings.
Ogidi stated, “There was a group planning to disrupt the convention when they met in Abuja and gave some conditions, but PDP is an organized party for God’s sake. You can’t just come out and call yourself stakeholders.”
He alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had “weaponized hunger,” which he believes is influencing certain individuals to act against the PDP. Nevertheless, he maintained that those who left the party would ultimately seek to return. “We all know why they are going, but we have strong belief they’ll come back,” he affirmed.
Ogidi also accused some PDP members, including incumbent governors and senators, of demonstrating impatience regarding the timeline for the party’s convention, emphasizing that there is no basis to doubt the integrity of the process.
He commented: “Some of these governors or senators don’t have patience. The convention is just weeks away. Why are they thinking it won’t hold? We are in court, but that’s no reason to panic. If you’ve done the right thing, the court will give you justice.”
Finally, Ogidi offered assurances that the party is strictly adhering to due process and expressed optimism that the upcoming convention will be held as scheduled.
