Due to claims of attempted mob action against a Federal Road Safety Corps, or FRSC, patrol team, three members of a transport union have been charged by the Osun State Police Command in an Osogbo magistrate court.
The Allied Truck Transport Association of Nigeria (ATTAN) union members who were arraigned were Abdullazeez Mudasiru, Abdullateef Raheem, and Olatunde Nasurudeen Abioye,On Saturday, August 9, 2025, the suspects were arraigned before Magistrate A. O. Ayilara on three charges of conspiracy, breach of public peace, and obstruction of a public highway.
With sureties of reasonable means within the court’s jurisdiction, their attorney requested bail, which the court granted in the amount of N1,000,000 each.
Magistrate Ayilara postponed the trial until September 25, 2025.
The incident happened on Saturday, August 9, 2025, along the Osogbo–Sekona route, close to the main gate of the Government Secretariat, Abere, according to a statement released by the spokesperson, Agnes Ogungbemi, on Tuesday and by the Osun FRSC Sector Commander, Leye Adegboyega.
According to the FRSC statement, the patrol team stopped a small truck with the license plate APM 499 XA after noticing that the driver was not using a seatbelt. The driver received an FRSC Notice of Offence ticket for the infraction, according to officials, and his driver’s license was revoked while the fine was deposited into the Government Treasury Single Account. But instead of accepting the ticket, the criminal allegedly got in touch with other Allied Truck Transport Association of Nigeria (ATTAN) members. The patrol team was unable to carry out their duties when, a few minutes later, roughly fifty men arrived in the union’s cars, blocked the road, and disturbed the peace. According to the FRSC, the crowd seriously obstructed traffic and endangered the team as well as other drivers.
According to him, the patrol team leader immediately alerted the Sector Commander, remained calm in the face of provocation, and called the Nigeria Police Force, Ataoja Division, to diffuse the situation.
Some members of the crowd reportedly tried to attack and disarm the police officers when they arrived, and they were met with violence.
The Sector Commander then arrived, acknowledged the union leaders, and urged them to engage in dialogue rather than conflict.
