The Eternal Grace Ministry (EGM) Football Club from Yenagoa and Afini Ladies from Amarata have clinched the championship titles in their respective male and female divisions at the 2025 Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, also referred to as the ‘Prosperity Cup’.
During the grand finale at Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa over the weekend, EGM, the champions of 2022, became the only team to win the tournament twice.
Playing in front of over Five Thousand enthusiastic soccer fans, EGM FC beat Advance Dreams Football Academy 3-2 in a dramatic penalty shootout after a barren draw in regulation time.
Speaking during the final, Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, expressed satisfaction with the quality of football witnessed in the female final, saying it’s a testament of the growth of female football in Bayelsa state.
He said his administration would continue to invest in sports, pointing out that, that is why the administration is embarking on the construction of a 25,000-capacity stadium. He equally assured that the Prosperity administration is committed to completing the stadium in the next two years.
In the last tournament edition, Afini Ladies secured third place. EGM FC triumphed over Advance Dreams Football Academy 3-2 in a thrilling penalty shootout, following a goalless match, while competing before more than 5,000 fervent soccer supporters.
During the final, Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri expressed his pleasure at the high standard of football displayed in the female final, noting that it demonstrated how much female football in Bayelsa State had developed.
He stated that his administration would keep investing in sports, highlighting that this is the reason for building a stadium with a capacity of 25,000. He also assured that the Prosperity administration is dedicated to finishing the stadium within the next two years.
